I always thought if my schooling never worked out, I wanted to be a fashion designer. It's just shelved onto my "fantasy career" wall. Although my sewing skills are close to zero, I compromise by making sugar dresses! Well, at least they're edible = )

For Princess Beatricia, her very own Blossom Princess in pink & purple. How couture! I loved the detailing on her off shoulder sleeve = )

The princess' body is entirely cake. I had a customer ask if I had placed a "board" inside. I had no clue what she was asking but I think she didn't realise it's all cake.

Cupcakes are still somewhat of a fad. They're individual portions of cake just enough for one, and with time & budget, they can turn into individual works of art. This cupcake tower was made for two girlfriends celebrating their birthdays together. It's got everything a girl could want with handbags, shoes (& boots) and jewellery. Even a hottie guy!

Sofia with an "f" is turning a big 10. Her first decade. She was pretty clear as to what she wanted, and chose turquoise and purple as her theme. In my head I thought it would look awful but after finishing the cake, it turned out pretty nice. Well you learn something new everyday even if it's from a 10 year old!

First wedding of the Year

I didn't really "begin" the year 2012. It just felt like I rolled over from '11 to '12. The work load made it feel like that I think. We're still on a roll with our cake pops and this order came in as an official "starter" for 2012 - our first wedding order for the year. Of course, I'm hoping it won't be the last = )

This is our first on more than one level - here we introduce our "Mini Fondant Cupcakes". Tiny and cute pieces of treats that are not going to overwhelm your guests. It's a "just nice" treat to any function with our ever growing awareness of our waistline especially with the festive season.

The theme for the cupcakes: white. As much as white on white is lovely, the bride decided to add a hint of green and have the lettering match her favourite ribbon colour. These were made for her marriage registration party.

Strawberry swiss roll

It's the simplest idea. A sheet of vanilla cake, light and fluffy. Strawberries steeped in strawberry jam. Roll. Cream. Slice & eat. Simple... not. The swiss roll has been my "nemesis" in cake making. It's like rolling a maki, just trying to get the filling right in the centre of the roll. It never has failed that my filling would either roll off the sheet of cake or end up at the bottom of the roll! Well, practice makes perfect rolls then.

So the reason why I'm posting this is 'cos it tasted better than it looked! LOL yippee it just goes to show that looks aren't everything!

Luscious berries glazed in strawberry jelly... ooooh yum! and to top it off with freshly whipped vanilla cream oooh double yum!!

Agent Oso & Paw Pilot

The world has changed since iPad. Everything to tickle our senses and even to heighten it. Well baby Isaac is an iPad user. Constantly touching the screen with his baby fingers, learning how to "turn" the page. Here I am with a "regular" phone and "regular" desktop LOL!

Well, baby Isaac is a fan of Agent "Oso" and Paw Pilot, a children's learning programme which he watches on his iPad. I viewed parts of the programme on his iPad to get ideas for the cake.

Jungle Animals

I really enjoyed making this cake. The characters came out super cute! The theme was "jungle animals" but I didn't want to make it look like a jungle with greenery and wild trees. Hence the bright and clean colours. So let's meet our jungle friends...

The friendliest Lion you'll ever meet heheh! I had a few options on how to make the lion's mane and chose to almost "rip" the fondant pieces to give that "wind in the hair" look.

I had previously designed the cake with a cute bear but the birthday boy requested Mr Monkey instead. So here he is hanging around!

Don't forget Mr & Mrs Giraffe. They're so tall I had to make them pop out of the cake instead of making an entire body.

Believe it or not, I used to be an avid fan of Elvis. The man just knew how to move and it's not just the dancing. Some people just have that "X factor" = )

So it was a hilarious challenge I couldn't turn down even though I was given a few days notice.

The famous lip action that turned grown women into freakish creatures of goo goo ga ga LOL! And them side burns are such a trademark. I chose to make the Las Vegas Elvis in the famous white suit with the Liberace-esque glitter.

This is a mini replica of Elvis' favourite guitar - the Gibson J-200. This guitar was featured in several of his movies.

Every time I think about this poem, I remember that hilarious episode on Friends where Monica and Chandler elope. They run frantically around the Las Vegas casino looking for objects that would satisfy this 'good luck' poem for brides. Monica eventually "borrows" a blue sweater from a store under her dress making her look like an expecting mother!

The theme for this bride was blue and yellow. A very unusual colour combination outside of art class where we had the colour wheels matching "cold & warm" colours. Yet I suppose opposites do attract 'cos the colour combo really worked.

The centrepiece of the wedding was a tiered wedding cake pop stand. Filled with a mixture of flavoured cake pops dipped in blue & light yellow chocolate. Love the blue.

While trying to figure out how to design a wrapper for the stand, I came across a bunch of wrappers my "blonde asian" friend left behind when she moved back to USA. It couldn't have been a more perfect match when I found a blue butterfly & yellow sunflower wrapper.

We worked late into the night to finish off the bride's flowers. Only managed to capture her hand bouquet filled with fragrant yellow roses and delicate blue hydrangeas. Nice.

Full Moon Cake pops

The chinese have a tradition that when a baby is born they have to be "introduced" to the family only after one full cycle of the moon. Hence the name "full moon". The baby has made it through it's first 30 days of life, so it calls for a celebration. I reckon it's just any excuse to get a party started and eat! LOL Of course, guests traditionally have to bring gifts for the baby.

This was a cute idea for a "full moon" party, to have cake pops for the guests to eat instead of traditional sweet cakes.

Soccer goes POP!

We've been making cake pops till they're coming out of our ears!! We had a good break for Christmas and we're back for more poppin'! Those little cakes on a stick are really popular!

We made a semi 3D (if that makes any sense) with plain cream. No fondant in sight, little room for errors hehehe = ) This party went soccer theme all the way with soccer pops in red velvet!

Drawing 'em squares one by one was a real... "delight" heheh = ) At least they look soccer-ish.

This was a really fun project. I didn't even realise Doraemon was so hip in the 21st century! I remember vaguely of this blue creature from space. His hat and tricks came so handy. I have friends who can even sing Doraemon's title song! LOL

So I was given 3 days to think of something to get done. I googled Doraemon's many faces and found them too cute not to do. Instead of making them all flat faced, there are a few which have a more 3D look as I didn't have enough time to make figurines to sit on top.

The more curious part of this project was the recipient's nick name: Donut! I couldn't resist to make some sugar donuts too LOL! and they look delicious!

Goal!!!

Soccer goes beyond sports. It can bring an entire nation together. We saw this recently with our home team winning at the Asean, they received a hero's welcome. Nevermind, the lost the next day but it was that goal that made all the difference. I'm no soccer fan (nor fan of any sports) but I understand that feeling of striking a goal of any kind in life (how poetic!).

With this cake, I miscommunicated with the customer and made the wrong cake. But with all things in life, nothing goes to waste, so my friends and family will have the joy of cutting this one up!

The challenge of making anything round, especially a soccer ball, is getting the patterns to match on a three dimensional surface.

This post is my 'relief' post. It's my relief out of the kitchen for awhile. The elves are super busy with christmas cake pops amounting to 400 pieces! phew ** Everyone seems to be in the "last minute" mode!

These super cute cuppies were made for a fashionista grand-mama. We had about a day to complete it from baking to sugar work! double phew **

The whole family is featured from dad, mum and the 2 little ones, ethan & abby.

Ok I readily admit that I'm no fashionista nor have much knowledge of difficult to pronounce brand names LOL! When I received this cake order, I couldn't (and still can't) pronounce the brand name Hermes. I had to do a thorough research as I've never seen this bag known as a Birkin. I didn't know if it had a zip!

The details were interesting to make. I was trying to figure out how the bag opened and closed LOL!

I eventually took the risk and made a zipper... sorry if this is heresy to Hermes!

Most customers didn't notice this cake sitting at my window. They seriously thought I had a bag at the window until I started peeling off fondant that got damaged overnight! had a good laugh : )

The party was to be held at a water park. He didn't like surfing... but he did like sharks. So we designed a Shark cake. Of course, he requested for bloody bits of body parts. "No, no. Aunty only makes happy cakes." LOL

It's the Great White bursting out of the cake. Much to my surprise, I enjoyed making the shark minus the gore.

The sea is such a magical place. It's another world altogether. I couldn't resist going all out on this cake with seahorses and lovable creatures! There's none more magical sea creature than the mythical mermaid. I remember watching Disney's Little Mermaid over and over and over and over till the video player (yes video, not digital!) got over heated! LOL so here's my attempt to capture the magic of this story on a cake.

Cake Poppin' is getting more and more popular these days. They're the latest alternative to cupcakes at a party. So imagine your birthday cake divided into several little balls of cake and dipped into candy chocolate and decorated with sugar deco. Everyone gets a slice of the cake, well, a stick of cake actually.

This birthday cake pop was designed for a 5 year old girl who loves dinosaurs! She has 4 favourite types of dinos: T-Rex, Apatosaurus, triceratops and stegosaurus. (I had to double the check the spelling of these names... sorry, when I was 5 all I knew was Barbie & Ken LOL^^)

To make the "cake" more girly, it was requested that we make pink & green cake pops = )

This was another late night project, hence the stainless steel and white tile background. After finishing the cake, I realised there were some details I missed out on. But it was close to midnight and I was hoping no one would notice.

Let me put a personal note if I may that anyone who knows me knows I'm not neither technical nor accurate in measurements. I am, as they say, a 'free' spirit = ) So building a ship out of cake was not going to be an easy feat! Rebelling against the use of a ruler or any measurement, I did everything "by eye" and realised later that the front of the ship lacked the "aerodynamic" shape! o well...

Butterflies

Clara's favourite colour is "sky blue". She didn't have any specific ideas in mind, so we designed the cake together. Sometimes, I get inspired by the person I'm talking to. Being only 11 years old, Clara had a "quiet assurance" about herself. I thought of butterflies gracefully flying up the cake towards the top to symbolise her growing up and blossoming like a butterfly. Sounds corny right? but it was a sweet idea = ) We threw in elements like the rainbow and busy bees to give the cake some colour.

Clara turns 11 in 2011 = ) and in November, the 11th month!

Butterflies always speak of "change", that we go through a daily "metamorphosis" to become the person we're supposed to be... aaaawwww

It's Spidey!

Comic book characters are not the easiest to make out of fondant. Not only the details but the proportions have to be somewhat accurate that it resembles the character. I didn't want to just make a spiderman cake topper... that somehow proved to be too predictable.

So I chose a position that made him look like he's swinging off the cake. Great idea but took me several tries to get his body right and not make him look like he's squatting!

This week was filled with "little" orders in big numbers! We made mini finger foods and mini goodies for our customers.

These Cake Pop & Cup cake (tongue twister) were made for a "Hen's night". Super cute 'cos you can devour the cupcake and save the pop... yea right! **

These were our mini swirls of orange cupcakes. So cute ^^

Our favourite creation were our custard cream filled eclairs that came in mini sizes. Little in size, big in flavour = )

Aloha actually means affection, love, mercy and compassion. All that just in "hello" ^^ This cake was designed for a Hawaiian themed party for a 10 year old girl. It was a bit of a challenge to make from the inside out.

Her voice sounded anxious, looking for someone who would make a cake for her baby's 1st birthday with only a few day's notice. She explained that her previous plan with another baker fell through and she was super desperate. And like a hero in shining apron, I would come to the aid of a flustered mum!

She had something in mind of a baby in overalls as a cake topper. how cute ^^

I have to admit, I'm not an animal lover. I love looking at pictures of them. I love going to the zoo but I'm not an "animal whisperer" of any kind. But I have to say I loved making this cake.

Making an animal is not easy especially if it's someone's pet. Every pet has a personality and you really want to capture as much of that. Plus making animals hasn't been a "forte" of mine but you gotta start somewhere.

Sesame Street Party

It was so much fun planning the menu for this party. The theme was "Sesame Street" with individual stalls named after a character in Sesame Street. Big Bird had a table with Mac 'n Cheese and Spaghetti meatballs. Each item was individually displayed in paper boxes.

The entire space turned into a real "street" party with Sesame Street decor and fun colours.

What do you give a baker for her birthday? A bag of flour? Maybe a new weighing scale? A cake? Well, if it's going to be a cake then it has to be a GREAT cake! Impressions must be made, not just a slab of sponge and some cream. This cake is orange butter and topped with a mini carrot cake but it's the outside this time that is candy to the eye!

Masterchef Gwen on top of her own birthday cake hard at work with a bowl of chocolate cake batter. Gwen is an all round baker making her own cakes, cookies, breads. So we've got mini cakes, cookies, bread even macarons made out of fondant. I felt like I was playing with my "mini kitchen" toys!

My favourite part of the cake would have to be the bottom with a piping bag made out of fondant. I was so thrilled with it I couldn't stop looking at it! We finished the cake with Gwen's name "piped" out on the base. (I love the black & white tiles cos it reminds me of kitchen tiles)

Fairy Princess

Last Saturday, our shop was transformed into a wonder fairy land with little kings & queens. The Fairy Princess for the day was little Zoe. All dressed up with wings and a wand to complete the look ^^ so cool!

Zoe was very clear about her little party (she's only 4!) - purple and pink with lots of sparkles.

These were made for a prestige promotion at KLCC by Chloe & Marc Jacobs named "your flower, your fragrance". Hence the cake pop stand came with a floral pattern to match the theme. Pink cake pops are red velvet flavour, white cake pops are chocolate. Who can resist?

Meet a Puffle Cake pop! (I have no idea what's a Puffle but I'm trusting an 8 year old girl knows more.) These are the first "character" cake pops we've done so far. Plus a first for me to tint chocolates = ) Not exactly according to the photo shown to me but I think these are super cute!

Spring Day

It's the turn of September and in Melbourne, it would be the beginning of Spring. Sitting here in my air-conditioned shop, I ponder about Spring with mixed feelings. It's the burst of fresh life in the air, a relief from a hard winter but it's also a season of pollen - aka "hay fever"! *ugh* So I'm content to sit in my air-con room and just conjure up Spring inspired cake designs LOL

So here's my Spring Day cake. Lovely soft tones that would be great for any garden wedding. And being an "out of the box" person, I decided to make my cake a little topsy turvy... just like spring!

I love the stripes of pale green, pink and yellow. Matched with romantic roses in similar shades

After the shots were taken I played around with some feather butterflies... pretty but no pics.

This "Sunshine & Rainbow" cake was adapted from our original - "You are my sunshine". For little Charisse, we added more flowers and introduced 2 butterflies. Her 1st birthday invite was inspired by this cake - what an honour!

These little angry birds are really a phenomenon. And until I got a hold of the game it was hard to understand. I'm not addicted but for the few minutes I couldn't get enough of it. Thank God I don't own an i-anything (i.e iphone, ipad...). It's just my imac.

We have a display Angry Bird cake in the shop and it's recognisable for all ages. The young and old just know who are these angry little birdies!

Alice in Wonderland

Tim Burton's interpretation of the classic tale of Alice in Wonderland was completely "out of the box". The characters, the costume, the art direction... it's needless to say it wasn't going to be easy to translate all that into a cake. But anything's possible.

Nothing in Wonderland makes any sense. The base of the cake was to be a "topsy turvy" cake that looked like it defies gravity. The colours had to be bold and graphic. The centre layer was inspired by the Red Queen's dress.

Tim Burton's "Alice" had meshed art with computer graphics and when I saw the "talking flowers", I just had to make them! This one's sleeping zzzzzzzz

Reese's

My little brother, not so little now, discovered the love of his life while on holiday in Dallas, USA - Reese's Peanut butter cups. Chocolate cups filled with pure peanut buttery filling. We brought so many back and froze them so he could savour them slowly LOL!

This was a farewell cake made for a big fan of Reese's. I spent a whole day searching for Reese's in Cold Storage till I gave up due to the heavy rain. Finally, we got them in just in time. *phew*

The giant Reese cakes are chocolate cake filled with peanut butter cream, and crushed Reese's. Who could resist?

The red poppy was made "fashionable" when Kenzo designed their perfume bottle with a single red poppy. This cake was inspired by the flower itself - understated yet it makes it's presence felt. So elegant, so strong, so feminine.

Poppies are almost impossible to find in our hot and humid weather. Sugar flowers are apt for such a purpose. However, if I had the choice, I would opt for fresh flowers to adorn the cake.

What's blue with big beady eyes, teeth like a dinosaur and ears like a rabbit? Sounds like the perfect elements for Disney I guess! This cake replica of Stitch turned out a little bigger than I wanted... than I costed for. My only concern is that it turns out looking like Stitch and not a big eared blob of fondant! LOL

It's girl power! Princess Aurora and what's-his-name... oh yea Prince Philip LOL! (It's a serious offence to a 6 year old "princess" when you don't know the prince's name!) The birthday princess was very determined to have the world painted pink! Pink castle, pink dress and pink strawberry cake.

Vintage Cupcakes

Vintage fascinates me. Though I'm no strict fashionista regarding vintage, there's a certain elegance in mixing the old with new. After seeing our funky cupcakes for Bobo, my customer decided to order this for a friend... a more "mature" friend. Something more elegant.
After a solid night's sleep, I woke up thinking these cupcakes deserve a stand to be presented with them. I love the yellow rose vintage print I found on google.
The birthday girl loves yellow roses. And my customer's signature gift was always the yellow rose. Hence some sugar roses to give his "signature" look = )
I reckon this is a nicer way of presenting beautiful cupcakes... it's literally thinking out of the box!

A Black Berry

One minute into the conversation with me, the customer gets the point that I have no idea about what he's asking for. A request for a "blackberry" cake turns into me asking what kind of berries he'd like! OMG! Thinking the customer didn't really know about Black forest cakes, I explained that the berries are not black. Another OMG! After my thorough explanation about the world of berries, there's a long pause on the other end..... "Hello?"

At this point, the customer has to find an ingenious way to explain to the cake lady that he'd like a cake in the shape of a BlackBerry PHONE! "Oh, why didn't you say so earlier?!!" Poor fella. Well, at least he knows more about berries than he did before LOL!

So finally onto the cake... I'm out of photos by now....

Making a cake like this requires an eye for detail. Because it's not a "fantasy" cake, the shape and details have to be "life like". After my excellent calculation with rulers and fingers included, this cake has finally topped my weekend.

There was a big argument as to the colour of the ribbon... my elves were debating the colour yellow, black or pink... the neutral decision: white. Well, at least it's not a "black berry" cake!

How does art imitate life? This glorious sugar rose is made up of 18 petals in total. I had to make five roses so that's 90 petals in grand total. My inner instinct told me to make a 6th rose just in case and it came in handy. Just as I was constructing the cake in the last few hours before the wedding, my packet of fondant fell, smashing my 5th rose to smithereens! Well there you go....

The beginnings of the 4 tier cake with a base of 14 inches. Being a small "factory" we don't have a large sheeter so it's all hand rolled baby! We're so pampered in this age, I'm already thinking where to put the sheeter! Need to clock in extra hours at the gym! LOL

The cake begins to take shape with the lower 2 tiers - it was so heavy 2 guys needed to lift it into the car and to the wedding site. The "bare" edge of tier 3 would be filled in after the 2nd tier goes on.

To some downsizing can be seen as negative. To us, to downsize a dessert is a delight = ) We shrunk our regular eclaires for a special customer and made them join our "mini" menu.

Celebrating two birthdays together for a father and a son-in-law, both fans of golf. It's a game of patience and mental strength, well so was making this cake! The arms of both figures broke a few times and after a few fondant patch ups they're standing with their golf clubs ^^ Not only the figures but we had to bake the cake twice as it burnt the first time! *phew*

I was asked to do a "naughty" cake. It was for her husband turning a big "four o". Beads of sweat started to form as I imagined the horrors of making a naked body. Thankfully, the customer wanted it naughty but cute so no nudity. **phew** The theme was "pole dancing" and I decided that an animal print would best suit.

My most embarrassing confession would be that when I was a little girl I used to pretend I was a princess. So who didn't right? That's not the embarrassing part - I used to use my white school socks as princess "gloves" on my hands! LOL I even have photos to prove it... which would never be shown to the public! We laugh but deep down every woman, there's a girl pretending to be princess. Except I'm not sure we're all waiting for the prince in shining armour, we just like being pampered! ^^

So I must be the last person on the planet to find out there was such a thing as "Angry Birds". My question was "Why so angry lah?". Thinking these birds are in need as some serious anger management programme, I went into a research frenzy to find out everything I needed to know. With characters I've got to make sure they're as "genuine" as possible...

So the story goes that the birds got their eggs stolen, or as my LA friend says "yeggs", by some green pigs. And thus begins a big battle to take these green bacon bits down!

Lemon meringue cupcakes

I love Lemon meringue tarts. Sweet, sour and lovely pastry to hold up everything good in life ^^ ah. You could always bet on finding a lemon meringue pie in a cafe in Melbourne. Especially their Lemon tarts... aka lemon meringue minus the meringue, which I also love ^^

So, of course, it would make sense to make lemon meringue cupcakes. A cup filled with lemony gooey curd topped with sweet meringue.

Nothing beats home-made lemon curd... actually nothing beats home-made anything!

Each cupcake is filled with ooey gooey lemon oh so good curd = ) I could eat them just like this but then I wouldn't have lemon meringue cupcakes... just lemon cupcakes

Lightly golden meringue topping. I didn't have a torch around so our oven had to suffice... except it doesn't look "burnt" enough ** sigh**

Having extra curd lying around it would only make sense to make a lemon meringue cake!

Why not? Light lemon sponge filled with lemon curd and topped with sweet meringue & fresh cream

Oh it's good. Next challenge before they really hit the shelves is to perfect the meringue and curd so that it doesn't leak out of the cake

We recently had an order for 300 butter cupcakes. We made almost 100 extra because some accidentally "exploded" out of the cups. So what do you do with extra cupcakes?

Make "surprise cupcakes"! These are delicious butter cupcakes filled with jam, peanut butter and gooey ooey chocolate. It's a surprise as you bite into them! Who doesn't like surprises?

The Diana

I'm pretty adamant about not having a catalogue of cakes for brides to choose from. It's such a personal event that one should have a custom designed cake. The colour, the flavour, the details all should be tailor made for you. Imagine choosing a design from a catalogue and 20 other brides have had the same design as you! Custom design doesn't mean expensive but it does mean you'll need to take the time to really personalise it.

The bride, Diana, chose this design from the UK for her wedding here in KL. All three tiers are real cakes - bottom being chocolate mud, middle tier is orange butter and the top is a red velvet. The cake is surrounded by gorgeous dusty purple roses and white orchids - all fresh flowers. It's a pretty name for this design: The Diana... sounds pretty royal right? ^^ Hmm perhaps that would be my trend to name a wedding cake after the bride.

When you want to make someone feel special, especially on their birthday, you let them experience their favourite things. This order came from UK and the request was something really special. So we filled the gift hamper with all sorts of goodies - teas, coffee, jams, cookies and even a pot of berries. Yet the more special feeling is just that someone was thinking of them. It really is the thought that counts.

I literally pulled this one out of a hat as I misread the order form and by the time I realised it, the customer was 15 minutes away. Luckily (thank You God!) she stopped by for lunch and waited till it was done in 30 minutes! If that ain't amazing grace, I don't know what is!

There are some customers who may love the look of fondant creations but not necessarily love eating fondant itself. The soft gooey covering of the cake can be, to some, a little too much sweetness. So I was asked to do a fondant cake that didn't have fondant. Was that even possible?

I attempted to make this fondant-less cake with pure buttercream. I ended up making this cake twice to get to the perfect design. I made a full flower power cake with loads of flowers piped in cream and ended up dissatisfied with it - it seemed too matronly even if it was for a mum.

So, I spent an entire night debating with myself and eventually lost! I got up the next morning and baked a square orange butter cake (yum) and timed myself to finish it by 4pm for pickup on that same day. Waited a mere hour (due to impatience) for it to sort of cool down and creamed it with 2 shades of butter cream to make it look like a gift box. I satisfied the customer (& myself) by finishing off the cake with a pretty big bow.

And no cake for Mum is complete without a few rose buds = ) Tonight I can sleep perfectly knowing the battle for perfection has been won... *sigh (of relief)*

When your body is feeling ill, everything seems "dulled". Our sense of taste is dulled, we feel a little under the weather. It's been said that a person's spirit condition is the defining factor to being healed. I've heard that the greatest medicine is positive thoughts. So there's nothing like lifting one's spirit up by giving a basket full of good thoughts.

This basket was personalised with photos of the recipient to remind her of good times.

Gerberas accompany the basket to make it look like a garden of goodness.

Nothing cheers a person up like a cake pop! A cake on a stick - it'll put a smile on your face. These were inserted into the arrangement making them look like chocolate "flowers".

Fuss free bouquet

When you buy a flower bouquet, that is wrapped in paper, it has to sit in water. Within a few days your vase will have yucky water. It's actually caused by bacteria from the stems and giving that slimy water effect, which if unchanged will shorten the flowers' life. The trick is, believe it or not, to put a tiny, tiny drop of household bleach. Yup that's right, the kind you wash your white tees with. A little amount of bleach will kill off the bacteria on the stems, not enough to kill the flowers. (If your flower vase smells like the swimming pool, you've put too much bleach!) With this trick, your flowers will last a little longer and you won't get yucky water in your vase. Cool trick right? ^^

Well, with all this high maintenance, we have an alternative arrangement - in floral sponge. The sponge holds water and you only need to water it every few days. After the flowers expire, just throw out the whole arrangement. It's literally fuss free!

Wedding bells are ringing, it's been an entire week of weddings especially with Will & Kate's Royal Wedding. Yet not all weddings are to be that formal or "stiff". It's meant to reflect the couple and who says it can't be fun and quirky.

Better yet to be surrounded by the people you love. Each friend had a personalised cupcake designed for them with their particular hairstyles, facial traits.

The request came with a cartoon - I suspect a childhood toy for sentimental reasons. so cute ^^

This project "accidentally" came to our shop. A customer's cake toppled on the way home (from another bakery). An emergency call to us and this Barbie got a revamped kebaya. Yet in all circumstances, everything works out for good.

Barbie got a fresh coat of fondant in aqua. Beautiful shade that I had some left over from a wedding project. Lace effect adds glamour to the dress and dusted with pearl shine.

This was another late-night project but I had to make sure I got all the details just right. There was no way to rush it. The entire train and the two carts behind that follow are all cake.

When I finished the cake, something was amiss. We finally went out to grab a bag of M&Ms and "filled" the carts with buttercream as "glue" to stick all the candies on. Now Bob has a got his train full of M&Ms!

Angelina Ballerina. Never heard of her till a few months ago when I learnt how to make her petite body in fondant. I actually enjoy making her face - so delicate and she's got a pretty personality.

This cake is in 5 inches - the smallest we offer. So Angelina does a full split on her cake!

Pretty in pink and with her famous trademark - a red rose. Super cute ^^

Petit Me

These are our Petit Reds - red velvet with cream cheese cut into 1 inch x 1.5 inch shapes. Petit-ly divine! We made them for a morning session of a wedding so the little red hearts were totally appropriate = )

Many ask about the Red Velvet - basically it's a cocoa/ chocolate cake that's red. The red comes from colouring (not so good but we don't use that much). The not-so-funny thing about this project was that we had made 3 batches of red velvet to get the right colour - for some reason the recipes were switching up on us! All in all, we have finally found our ultimate red velvet that's like it's name - velvet in texture.

Aqua & Red

Timing is everything. Most Asians are strict about the timing of a wedding, to some extremes calculating the timing of a baby's birth.

This cake project came just in time as I had finished SK's training for life size roses. I had a full week of stress as the roses didn't come out as red as I wanted and had to start all over again. I couldn't buy ready made red paste so I had red hands for the entire week as I coloured the paste with red colour. But it was worth it, the deep red of these blooms are so luscious against the pure white and soft hues of aqua.

The couple had an unusual colour theme as you don't see much of aqua around at weddings. It was tricky to balance the colour choice with the design of the cake, not to have the aqua tones over powering the cake. And my mum gave me sound advice as we added the final touches to the board of the cake with a "lace" effect in a light aqua icing.

"MJ" - not Michael Jackson - but the initials of the wedding couple.

Gorgeous red roses in sugar paste. Though it's made of edible material, it's not entirely delicious to eat!

Can you Prada my bag?

I had a strange feeling when I woke the morning after N rang me up for his sister's cake. That strange feeling that I was going to make a handbag cake. So the first instance I met N at the shop, he sat down and told me "My sister loves Prada". There you go! and of course, I only had a few days to work on it ^^

When N saw the cake, his first question was "How did you get the Prada logo embossed?" Well that's a trade secret boy! If I told you, I'd have to... well let's just leave it at that. The cake was to be designed with bag and shoe. As it went along the way, somehow, roses came in to the picture. It seemed to add more glamour to the cake.

My first shoe broke overnight, so I hurriedly made a second one to dry in a mere 5 hours! Having a rainy season doesn't help so that's why orders are always advised to come in 1 week before.

After getting over the rush of Valentine's and then a 5 day diploma course, I'm settled back in the shop with our regular orders coming in and out. However, there's no greater rush than getting a 1 day fondant order. The adrenaline will either stop you in your tracks or like me, push me to the best of my limits.

This design was adapted from a 7 inch cake design and with a little modification, we were able to do it in the short amount of time.

I heart u all over! I love the sharp contrast of the red against the white fondant.

Little hearts all over... oops forgot to dust the icing off... ^^
